Leather Beds: Style and Function

When you think of a bed or bed frame, your mind probably drifts naturally to wood, brass or some other metal, or a covered frame and headboard that are covered in some upholstered textile.

There are many classic looks involved in that general mental miscellany, but what hasn’t been covered is leather. This unique, exquisite material is somewhat rarely used on beds in general, but we think that should change.

As it turns out, leather beds are not just unique in style and appearance; they offer some unique value to those that choose them for their bedrooms as well.

Uniqueness

For one thing, leather beds are a rarity, at least compared to metal or wood-framed beds. That makes them inherently unique and gives them a “wow” factor that other beds simply can’t match.

Classic Style and Opulence

Leather is a luxury material that exudes heirloom quality. There are few other natural materials that can come close – perhaps furs, but the effect is different.

If you’re looking for a unique way to breathe an air of luxury into your bedroom, leather is a quality material that will not disappoint – and as you are going to see, it offers a few other unique benefits as well.

General Durability

Leather may not be as durable as wood or iron, but it is still very durable, and it is softer and more comfortable, too.

Leather headboards are supple and quiet, and the frame of the bed will be much more accommodating to your touch if it is upholstered with leather, rather than if it were a naked wooden or steel frame.

That being said, leather is still a highly durable material that, like the others mentioned here, will last for many years with proper care.

Ease of Maintenance

Textile upholstery on bed frames is comfortable and soft, but it can trap dust and allergens, and maintenance is therefore much more involved.

Leather lacks a weave, so despite the fact that it is technically absorbent and can soak up spills, it will not absorb particulate matter. Therefore, keeping it clean and free of dust and other allergens is basically as simple as periodically wiping it down with a clean cloth.

A Good Option for Pet Owners

Pets can get dirt and hair trapped deep within the weave of textile upholstery. Leather is better for reasons that have already been disclosed. Plus, leather is physically durable and can withstand being stepped and climbed on repeatedly by pets.

Do Leather Beds Need Any Special Care?

Leather beds, though they generally require little maintenance when compared to textile-upholstered beds, do require some special care and consideration in order to maintain their value.

Periodically wipe down the surface with a clean cloth to keep it free of dust and lint; every 6 to 12 months, you should treat the leather bed with an appropriate leather cleaner and conditioner in order to keep the leather soft and supple. Other than this, leather beds need very little additional care.

Otherwise, as your bed ages, the leather will develop a patina from use that will be as unique as a fingerprint; cherish it, it makes your bed truly one of a kind.

Underscoring the Elegant Simplicity of Modern Luxury Bedroom Furniture

In modern schools of design, there are a lot of terms that get thrown around with reckless abandon. Modern, postmodern, minimalist, elegance, and luxury are but a few that come to mind.
