A Helpful Prepper Supplies/Gear List Breakdown

Prepper supplies will help ensure you’re ready for anything – whether the lights go out for 2 hours or you’re in a for-real SHTF situation.

Reference this list and make sure you have all of these at the ready.

  • Emergency food rations (dried food/MREs)
  • Canned foods and canning equipment
  • Water supplies (one gallon per day, per person)
  • Water treatment (Lifestraws or water treatment tablets)
  • Coffee filters (can be used as water filters)
  • Candles, matches, lighters, ferro rods and other fire starting equipment
  • Field cooking equipment for cooking over a fire, including a camp stove
  • A manual can opener like a P-38 or P-51
  • Vessels for water/cooking (like tea kettles and canteens)
  • Flashlights and a wide range of batteries (LED flashlights last longer)
  • Solar chargers and solar lights
  • An emergency radio powered by a manual crank
  • First aid kits and equipment including but not limited to bandages, gauze, waterproof tape and athletic tape, tweezers, scissors, and disinfectants such as rubbing alcohol, iodine, hydrogen peroxide, and bactericidal ointments.
  • OTC medication (like painkillers)
  • Vaseline, can be used as an ointment, moisturizer, lubricant, firestarter, and more
  • Rubbing alcohol or high-proof ethanol (both have multiple uses, including as fuel, disinfectant, or as a cleaner/solvent)
  • Soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, and other personal hygiene essentials
  • Emergency clothing and footwear
  • Sewing kits and thread for making repairs
  • Bug spray, mosquito netting
  • Impromptu shelter-making supplies, like a tarp (which has 101 uses, by the way)
  • Raingear and warm outerwear (ponchos, jackets, winter coats, etc.)
  • Cordage like paracord that can be used to make traps, build structures, make repairs, and more.
  • Dry boxes (good in the rain/in floods)
  • Camp gear/tools, such as saws, knives, shovels, and axes
  • Mechanical tools for making repairs (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, pliers, wire strippers, etc.)
  • Hardware/fasteners like nails, screws and bolts
  • Maps of your area, navigation aids like compasses
  • Sleeping gear, wool blankets, ground pads, and sleeping bags (wool is best because it remains warm when wet)
  • Signaling equipment like mirrors and whistles
  • Duct tape (can be used for repairs and has a ton of uses)
  • Hunting, trapping and fishing gear
  • Heirloom seeds for long-term preparation
  • Car essentials, including tools, jumper cables, motor oil, spark plugs, etc.

That covers the bulk of what you need to prepare for emergency situations – but it is not comprehensive as the details in each category are not broken down.

When in doubt, more is better. If you think you could have a use for it in a dire situation, add it to your bug-out bag or survival pack.
