The Kershaw Dividend: What Sets This Kershaw Pocket Knife Apart

Need a new Kershaw pocket knife that breaks the mold? Consider the Kershaw Dividend, one of the most impressive Kershaw pocket knives we’ve seen in years.

Here’s what it has to offer.

SpeedSafe Assisted Opening
This is a mid-sized folding knife, perfect for everyday carry; it’s 7.25” overall, 4.25” closed and has a 3” blade length. It’s not making any records for that.

But it does feature Speed Safe Assisted opening technology, one of Kershaw’s claims to fame.

It opens smoothly, fluidly, and easily with one hand via a flipper mechanism that is easy to access whether you’re a righty or a southpaw.

The blade also features a sturdy liner lock mechanism that is easy to disengage to stash the knife when you’re done. Perhaps not as strong as a frame lock but still very good.

Composite Blade Technology Featuring Super Steels
The Compostite Blade technology, which is another one of Kershaw’s laurels, is also on full display in this knife, and it’s honestly probably what we love most about it.

This is because you could expect two average, middle-of-the-road steels in a composite blade, such as 420HC and 7Cr13MoV – but that’s not what you get.

You get two extremely tough, extremely hard super steels – CPM D2 and N690 – merged together in one blade.

What Kershaw has done is used different alloys, melded together, along the edge and throughout the rest of the blade.

This creates a knife that has an exceptionally hard blade with a perfect heat treatment that can hold an edge for longer, that is better suited to hard use.

The reason for this is that the remainder of the blade is made from a tougher steel that, though it might not be as hard, is better suited to abuse.

The result is a (mostly) stainless steel blade that is hard enough to hold an edge but has a hedge against brittleness and breakage.

Downright Durability
The Composite Blade is not the only thing that’s great about this knife. We also love the olive anodized 6061-T6 aluminum handle that is basically bombproof.

All in all, the construction of this knife is one for the ages. It’s rock-solid backwards and forwards.

Advanced Ergonomics
The handle shape of the Kershaw Dividend is also highly ergonomic and makes the knife easy to handle and carry in a variety of grips and configurations.

The knife profile is a plus, too – it’s a fairly basic drop point with a swedge, a gracefully curved belly and a fairly sharp point that’s great for slicing and piercing.

4-Way Carry and More
We also love the fact that this knife has a lanyard clip, a reversible pocket clip that allows for tip-up or tip-down carry on both sides of the blade, and the fact that it’s so lightweight – only 2.8oz in all.
