Need a New Unicycle or Bike Seatpost Clamp? Get It at Unicycle.com

Since bikes are largely powered by chain drives and the rider typically does not sit directly over one of the tires, adjusting a bike’s saddle height up or down is easy.

With unicycles, the seat can still be adjusted, but only down to a certain point, since the rider sits directly atop the wheel. In some instances, the seat tube can be cut down for a better fit.

However, at a certain point, it’s important to know your inseam measurements so you know what unicycles you can and can’t ride comfortably.

But hold on – before you assume you’re riding a unicycle that’s too large (or too small, for that matter) you should adjust the seat height.

To do that, you’ll have to get slightly familiar with unicycle and bike seatpost clamps.

What Does It Do?
The unicycle’s seatpost clamp is the small part that holds the seatpost firm in the frame.

The seatpost clamp can be tightened to afford a secure setting for saddle height, but it can also be loosened by the rider to allow the seatpost to slide up and down within the frame for a more comfortable fit. In essence, the seatpost clamp secures your seatpost at a given height.

It’s a pretty basic piece of hardware, but it’s vital to securing a comfortable ride – for all riders.

Are They All the Same?
Yes, all unicycle and bike seatpost clamps are the same, but they do have subtle features that set them apart.

For instance, most unicycle and bike seatpost clamps are either bolted or quick release configurations. Some of them have two bolts or two quick-release clamps instead of one.

Bolt seatpost clamp models have two bolts that tighten the clamp. The clamp bolts can be torqued down to really provide a secure clamp on the seatpost, but they also require the rider to carry a tool for this purpose.

Quick-release seatpost clamps, by contrast, feature two levers or “arms” that can be closed around the clamp to tighten it. Opening them releases the tension on the seat post clamp and allows the seatpost to be adjusted up or down. These are convenient because they can immediately be adjusted in the field without the need for tools.

Get the Right Size!
Before you get a new seatpost clamp, make sure you get one that’s the right size. For instance, most unicycles come with seatpost clamps that are either 27.2mm, 28.6mm, or 31.8mm. You can usually find this information in product descriptions.

If you’re going to get a new one double-check the details and make sure you get the right size.

Why Would You Even Need a New Unicycle or Bike Seatpost Clamps
Well, to be honest, you might not! However, if you’re riding all year, wearing different clothes throughout the season, or you share your unicycle with other riders, you might enjoy the convenience of replacing your bolt seatpost clamp with a quick-release seatpost clamp, for instance.

Swapping to a quick release model offers convenience while swapping to a bolted model offers a little extra security. It’s up to you, just make sure you get the right size for your ride.
