Important Basic Tips for Vape Care

Vapes are mechanical devices that like cars must be maintained if they are to be expected to perform. While that comparison might seem extreme, if you don’t clean and properly care for your vape device, you’re going to need a new one sooner rather than later.

Follow these high-level tips for vape care and maintenance to keep your vape in good working order.

Keep Your Vape Tank Clean
Heavy vapers should clean their tanks once per week, moderate vapers every two weeks, and all vapers should clean their tanks periodically (like once per month).

E-juice residue can build up in the tank, adversely affecting firing, flavor, and performance. You’ll want to clean this out.

For most tanks, you’ll want to pull off the drip tip, remove the gaskets and separate all of the tank’s components. Then, rinse with warm clean water and allow to dry fully, separately, before reassembling.

It’s also a good practice to replace your coil when you clean your tank.

Don’t Dry Burn Your Vape
Try not to vape your tank all the way down to the bottom. This is called dry burning and generally, you shouldn’t do it.

Some vapers dry burn to clean their coils, but too many dry burns will actually damage your vape device. Our advice? Refill your tank when it starts to get low.

Store Your Vape Properly
Sure, you can store your vape or electronic cigarette in a pocket, but vape devices can be fragile and that’s a good way to break them. Plus, storing vapes loose will allow fibers and lint to work their way into the device’s cracks, potentially into the battery compartment or air intakes, which can hinder performance. Store your device in a case if possible.

Also, and most importantly, do not store your vape in a location where it will be exposed to extreme temperatures. This includes freezing temperatures, but really it’s heat (especially in the south) that can damage a vape. If it’s too hot for a lighter, it’s too hot for a vape; and never expose your vape to direct sunlight.

Clean the Battery Contacts Periodically
Cleaning your vape’s battery contacts is also a vital component of vape care. Fortunately, they’re also easy to clean.

Just use a wadded-up piece of tissue paper, a cotton swab, or a q-tip to wipe off the battery contact surface. This will help ensure a proper electrical connection between the battery and the device.

If you don’t clean your battery contacts, discharge can accumulate around the terminals, which will adversely impact the current flowing from the battery to the device. This can put a strain on both the battery and the device, shortening the lifespan of each.

Simple battery terminal maintenance will keep your vape device at peak performance for longer and will help prevent damage.
