How Do You Know If Your Shopify Website Needs a Redesign?

You know the old expression, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This can apply to an eCommerce website as much as to anything else.

However, eCommerce is on the cutting edge of commerce, and things develop rapidly, much more so than in other industries.

What wasn’t “broke” five years ago may well be today. With that said, here are some telltale signs you might want to hire a Shopify Plus designer for a redesign.

Poor SEO Performance

We’ll lead with this since design has usually a minimal impact on search engine rankings. But design does impact user engagement metrics, which do impact search engine rankings. Take that for what it’s worth.

High Bounce Rate

If you have a lot of people coming to your website, but then leaving immediately or not sticking around to learn more about your products, that’s a classic case of a poor user experience, or UX. Design, being one of the key drivers of UX, is the thing to invest in here.

Low Time on Page

Again, if you have plenty of traffic but low time on page, it’s a classic sign of design leading to a poor user experience. It could also have something to do with the copy on your website, but that can be upgraded in tandem with a redesign anyway.

Navigability Makes No Sense, Even to You

If you take a look at your website and even you, the administrator, can’t even figure out how to get anywhere, let alone to your products, then that’s a sure-fire sign that it’s time for you to upgrade things.

Outdated Elements

Does looking at your eCommerce website feel like you’re looking at a mom and pop shop that hasn’t cleaned the counters in 15 years? You get the picture. If it feels like everything to do with your website is dated, perhaps a redesign is the first project to tackle.

Slow Load Times

More often than not, slow load times are caused by server issues, files that are too large on your website, caching issues, and the like. But they can also be caused by outdated, unsupported elements, like your website theme. If that is the case, a redesign with a newer theme or template can help solve the problem.

You Can’t Detect a Hint of a Brand

Take a look at your homepage. Are brand elements, either in the form of colors or fonts, detectable? If not, your website is not what we might call “brand integrated,” and can benefit from a redesign.

Low Conversion Rate

When users get to your website, do a couple of things, and then leave without buying anything, you’re lacking on conversions. This could be due to a bad user experience caused by an ineffective site design.

You Haven’t Had a Redesign in 5 Years or So

Lastly, if it’s just been a couple years since your last redesign, there’s a sign that it’s time. Things move fast in the digital world and what used to be effective just a few years ago might not prove to be so anymore.

Hire a Shopify Plus Designer to Get the Job Done Efficiently

Is any of these a sure-fire indicator that the issue you’re facing requires a site redesign?

No, but the more of them there are, the higher your chances it’s time to hire a Shopify Plus designer to set things on the right track again.

It might seem like an expense, but putting money into a redesign for a website that generates revenue is really an investment. Don’t put it off.
