How Blade Tech Makes Better Carry Possible

If you carry a fixed blade on your belt, tip down is a standard, as is dangle carry, which is hardly anything other than a variant on that theme.

But there is so much more versatility out there in addition to standard tip-down carry, and Blade Tech can help you unlock that.

If you’ve ever foregone the opportunity to carry a fixed blade EDC knife simply because it seemed like there was no way to carry discreetly, or it seemed uncomfortable, Blade Tech can change that.

Let’s take a closer look.

Flexible Carry Options

First, let’s zoom out for a second. Blade Tech makes a whole lot more than knife accessories, although these will be the focus of this article.

The company actually makes holsters as well as mag pouches and belts that are designed not just for general utility and EDC, but to support those in the line of duty as law enforcement, paramilitary, first responders, and other similar roles.

But the focus here are their “Tek locks” and MOLLE locks, which, as you might imagine, are compatible with MOLLE systems in general. Notably, they are also compatible with other MOLLE-compatible knife sheaths, such as the perforated thermoplastic sheaths that are issued with most ESEE knives.

The reason this is a gamechanger is because it utterly revolutionizes the flexibility offered with respect to how you carry these knives. The clip plate that’s included with them is one thing, and, as explored at the outset of this article, enables tip-down carry on the belt, but the real value here is in versatility, and that’s exactly what these mounts offer.

When you equip a compatible knife sheath with one of these MOLLE locks (which is easy to do with the included hardware) you can rig the sheath in a number of different ways beyond the standard tip-down on the belt carry.

One of the most straightforward ways you can adapt the sheath with one of these locks is for compatibility with basically any MOLLE system. This includes but is not limited to plate carriers, vests, chest rigs, and packs of all sorts. These locks enable you to carry tip up, tip down, and horizontally.

With one of these locks you can also rig the sheath to carry on your shoulder, via a pack’s strap. This is convenient on the non-dominant side when you are wearing a backpack, especially when carrying tip up.

One of the greatest advantages here, however, is the flexibility to rig the sheath for scout carry or cross draw. In the former configuration, the knife is carried at the base of your back, horizontally, and typically with the edge down, and the tip pointing towards your non-dominant side.

This is an extremely comfortable, practical and comfortable carry discipline, especially for relatively larger blades that do not wear comfortably on the hip. It is equally comfortable with smaller blades and represents a much more discreet method for doing so.

The bottom line here is that Blade Tech opens up the door to a wider range of possibilities here that don’t often exist with stock knife sheaths. With the right Blade Tech sheath lock or adapter, you can carry in a way that works best for you or is more comfortable or discreet.
