CZ P-10C Recoil Reduction Hacks

The CZ P-10C can be called one of the best striker-fired pistols out there with hardly any exaggeration.

It boasts solid ergonomics, and unique for a striker-fired model, a crisp trigger with minimal creep and a short, positive reset.

But what if the reason you’re here has to do with recoil? There’s help for that.

Here are a few ways to help corral recoil, from training, training and more training, to installing a CZ compensator.

Fundamentals: Adopt a Proper Grip

Nothing you do to your CZ P-10C is going to move the needle on felt recoil if you don’t shoot properly – and by properly, we mean a good grip.

You should have a sure, high grip on the gun, with your shooting hand as high on the frame as you can go without getting in the way of the slide.

Your support hand should fully enclose and support your shooting hand. Wrap your support hand fully around your shooting hand, with your support thumb lying along your shooting hand’s thumb at the base of the slide. Your other four fingers of your support hand should be wrapped around the front of your shooting hand.

Extend your arms till your elbows are nearly straight, hold the gun tight, lock your wrists, bend your knees slightly, and lean forward just a bit. This grip and stance will help you absorb recoil.

Shoot Lighter Loads

The CZ P-10C is chambered in 9mm Luger, which, regardless of qualifying metric, is not a particularly intimidating caliber. But if you find your P-10C kicks a bit hard, here’s a trick for you.

The next time you go to a gun shop, take a look at all the things stamped on that box of 9mm you’re going to buy.

There will be a lot of things: bullet weight, muzzle velocity, what type of bullet it’s loaded with, and more.

There should also be a stamp for muzzle energy. All else being equal, the lower the muzzle energy, the lighter will be the recoil.

So, if you can scale that back, you’ll get a break on the recoil. If the ammo box isn’t stamped with muzzle energy, then look for lower bullet weight and muzzle velocity – these two things are factors of muzzle energy.

Install a CZ Compensator

One last thing you can do if you’re still not happy with recoil, even after adopting a better grip and shooting lighter loads, is install a CZ compensator.

A CZ compensator is a muzzle device (sometimes called a muzzle brake when added to a rifle) the purpose of which is to considerably reduce felt recoil.

Compensators do this by adjusting the manner in which gasses are vented at and around the muzzle, redirecting the force of felt recoil.

Ultimately, a good compensator can decrease felt recoil by as much as 50%, without adversely affecting shot power or accuracy.

On top of reducing recoil, a CZ compensator for your P-10C can also minimize muzzle flip, which will make it easier for you to make faster, more follow up shots.

And, some CZ compensators (such as those available from Anarchy Outdoors) are easy to install and the customization can be made at home.

The Most Important Factor: Range Time

Now all that’s left to do is for you to get to the range and put in the time. Remember, even though gear can help, it’s also the skill of the shooter that carries the day.

So get to the range with your lighter loads and compensator-equipped P-10C and remember the notes in here about how to adopt a proper stance and grip.
