Why Your Next Survival Knife Should Be an ESEE Laser Strike

The ESEE Laser Strike might be a generic-looking blade with a spear point profile, but there are actually quite a few things about it that make it a great option for a survival knife. This post will look into them.

Blade Profile and Steel

The meat of the ESEE Laser Strike is a 4.75” spear point 1095 steel blade. Pretty much everything you need to know is contained in that sentence.

Let’s look at the spear point profile. The symmetry of this blade point makes it excellent for drilling holes, while retaining the utilitarian nature of a drop point for general camp chores.

In other words, the ESEE Laser Strike would be right at home carving camp furniture, preparing food, and much more.

It should be noted that thanks to the generous jimping on the spine, the Laser Strike handles comfortably in a saber grip. It also handles well in a pinch grip, which offers a great deal of dexterity.

The steel is also something you’ll appreciate about the ESEE Laser Strike in a survival knife. Like most other ESEE Knives, it’s made with 1095, and is soft enough to easily resharpen in the field.

That said, 1095 is also a rust magnet, and the edge and logo on the Laser Strike will rust if you don’t keep them clean and oiled, despite the fact that the rest of the blade is powder coated, so be aware of that.

Scale Design and Interface with the Tang

The ESEE Laser Strike comes with comfortably swollen canvas micarta scales that, while not pretty, are a fan favorite for their ergonomics.

It also happens that the canvas micarta scales, in addition to offering comfortable ergonomics, solid traction in pretty much all conditions, and requiring low maintenance, are hiding two more secrets.

If you look at the scales, you will see that there is a divot on one side of the knife. This is a bow drill socket, which can be used to assist you should you ever take it upon yourself to build a friction fire with a bow drill. It’s a unique design shared in common with some other survival knives.

Also, the scales can easily be removed from the tang, which, if you do, will expose another secret.

Within the handle of the knife, wedged between the scales and the tang, is a slot for both a ferrocerium rod with a little space for tinder, too.

Other Features

In addition to what’s been mentioned here, the ESEE Laser Strike also comes with a high-quality Kydex sheath that offers an excellent friction fit and which can be rigged a variety of different ways, offering uncommon versatility with respect to how you carry the knife.

On top of that, the Laser Strike is covered by ESEE’s legendary lifetime warranty, which covers the entire knife and is transferable between users. If you break it, you can send it back to ESEE and they will send you a new one.

Where to Get an ESEE Laser Strike

In the market for a new ESEE Knife? Make it an ESEE Laser Strike. You will find ways to use this knife if you spend an appreciable amount of time outside, regardless of whether or not you actually need a new survival knife.

Either way, this knife will add value to your collection. If you’re looking for one, visit The Knife Connection. They carry this and other ESEE Knives; visit their website and get in touch with their customer service if you have questions before buying.
