Adjusting Your MP5 Sights

Zeroing any gun is a skill that you need to have if you want to shoot accurately and regardless of whether you shoot over open sights or prefer optics, it’s a very basic skill and a necessary one.

Here’s a quick primer on how to adjust your MP5 sights at the range.

How to Do It

First, what you need to do is select a range and set up a target. For the purposes of this illustration, we’ll stick with 25 yards, because that’s a reasonable range to zero an SMG like an MP5.

Then you will want to load your MP5 (or clone) with 3 rounds and fire at the center point of the target you have set up. Regardless of where the group fell, you should have produced a relatively tight group at this range – somewhere about an inch if not smaller.

If your group was more open than then, fire another 3 rounds at the target until you have produced a group approximately an inch in diameter.

Once you have fired a group of suitable small size, the next thing you need to do is actually adjust your MP5 sights

The MP5 sports a fixed hooded front sight and a diopter drum rear sight; therefore the only sight we will be adjusting will be the rear sight.

For the purpose of this illustration let’s assume that your group clustered slightly high and to the right of the centerpoint of the target. What you will need to do is move the rear sight in the opposite direction from the grouping to bring the sight radius in line with it: in this case, you will need to adjust the rear sight elevation down and the windage to the left.

There is a helpful mnemonic device to remember here: LLC, which stands for low, left, clockwise.

In other words, to adjust elevation down, turn the adjustment screw clockwise, and to adjust the windage to the left, turn the adjustment screw clockwise. Or, counterclockwise to raise elevation or to move the windage to the right.

First you will need to loosen the set screw that secures the rear sight assembly. Then, in this case, you will need to lower the rear sight slightly and move it to the right. Then you should retighten the set screw.

As for elevation, you will need an MP5 sight adjustment tool that engages the spring loaded detents; if you have one of these, insert it and turn clockwise to lower the elevation, which will in this case bring the sight radius more in line with the group that clustered slightly high.

Adjust the sights very minimally, then fire another three groups. You should notice an improvement in your grouping, that it clusters closer to the center of the target.

Repeat this process until you have satisfactorily centered the grouping over the target at your range, which in this case is 25 yards.

Replacing Your MP5 Sights

In the event that your MP5 (or your MP5 clone) has sights that are damaged, you can get replacement MP5-compatible sights online at Zenith Firearms.

How Helical Piles Simplify Foundation Work in Urban Environments

Urban construction brings with it a unique set of challenges: tight spaces, limited access, existing structures that must remain untouched, and strict noise or vibration restrictions. In these conditions, traditional foundation methods can be cumbersome, disruptive, and often impractical. This is where helical piles, installed with a helical pile driver, provide a practical and efficient […]

Helical Piles vs. Traditional Concrete: Long-Term ROI Analysis

Property owners and project managers often face the question of whether to invest in traditional concrete foundations or opt for helical piles. While concrete has been the default choice for decades, the long-term return on investment (ROI) tells a different story when comparing it to modern helical pile systems. For those searching helical piles near […]

The Pack Mule: The Kershaw Hunting Knife You Didn’t Even Know You Were Missing

Let’s just say it. Kershaw is better known for folding knives than it is for fixed blades that are intended for hunting and bushcraft. This is, after all, the company that brought the world SpeedSafe Assisted Opening Technology. That wouldn’t be of particularly much use to a fixed blade. Be that as it may, Kershaw […]
