What’s New in the iRay RH25 V2?

The super-compact iRay RH25 has long been a popular thermal optic among sportsmen and others with a strong use case, despite the steep price.

And, relatively recently, iRay has updated the RH25 in the V2 version. It still offers a lot of the same features and functionality as the original, but with some new updates. Here are some of the main changes to this RH25 V2.

Lighter Weight

Probably the main change to the iRay RH25 V2 is that reduction in weight. The old one was made with a military-grade aluminum housing; the new one is made with a magnesium alloy housing.

Both materials are lightweight and highly durable, but the V2 is even lighter, tipping the scales at just 11.3 ounces. This makes it the ideal thermal scope to stash in a pack, mount to a helmet (which is also possible), or clip onto your rifle as a backup thermal optic to your main scope.

It also means carrying a thermal scope in your loadout will set you back less than a pound, in terms of weight.

Easier Data Transfer and Charging

The new RH25 V2 has also been upgraded with a USB-C port, which accomplishes two important things: it allows for easier file transfer and it also simplifies charging.

As long as you have a USB-C cable and a power back with you in the field, you’ll never be without a charge. That’s one big advantage.

The other is that now you can transfer files to a computer or hard drive much more easily with the V2, which is a nice bonus, considering the optic has 64GB of internal storage, so being able to download those files easily is a big selling point.

A Larger Display and Eyepiece

The iRay RH25 V2 has also been upgraded with a larger display and eyepiece that provide for a clearer, more optimal viewing experience.

With a viewing area that’s now over 80% larger, and which has 90% more pixels, the RH25 V2 delivers a larger, clearer sight picture for faster target acquisition, more confident positive identification, and more comfortable scouting.

Plus, with everything else you’ve come to love about the original RH25, including a super-smooth 60Hz frame rate, 15mK or better NETD sensitivity, and MATRIX III image processing, the RH25 delivers a clean, clear, crisp viewing experience even in complete darkness.

Same Form Factor and Usability

Pretty much all other aspects of the RH25 have remained the same as they were in the original version; it sports the same compact profile, form factor, and ergonomics and controls as the original, and like it, can be used not only for scouting and scanning, but as a clip-on thermal optic, rail mounted, or even helmet mounted. Like the original it also has several working modes, along with several display colors as well as multiple different reticle types and colors.

Note on the RL25 V2

Even though this article is about the RH25 V2, one thing to note for prospective customers is that the new version of the RL25 can also be used as a clip-on thermal optic, a feature that was previously only available in the RH25.
