2 My Father Cigars You Should Try

If you’ve never heard of My Father Cigars it could be that the brand is only a few years old, especially when compared to some of the older, better-established cigar brands in the industry.

Officially founded in 2009, My Father Cigars is the product of Jose Pepin Garcia’s lifelong love of cigars. At 11, he became a cigar roller, and that inspired in him a love of tobacco that would blossom into the brand we know and love today.

Since 2009, the Garcia family has run the My Father brand from Estelí, Nicaragua, creating cigars that use predominantly Nicaraguan tobaccos, created by master blenders and artfully, expertly rolled.

They have produced many critically acclaimed cigars; the My Father La Flor de Las Antillas was awarded Cigar of the Year in 2012. Cigar Aficionado has even hailed My Father Cigars as “America’s Hottest Cigar Maker.”

These are two of our top suggestions if you’re looking to expand your tastes by sampling this brand.

My Father No. 1
The My Father Cigars No. 1 blend is a medium-full bodied cigar, a 5.25”, 52 ring gauge cigar that is made with Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos and completed with a beautiful, oily, slightly toothy Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper leaf.

It sports excellent construction, a near-perfect wrapper – perhaps with a few veins – and a tight draw. Not too tight, but close. It produces a very tight white ash as it burns as a result.

If you appreciate medium-full-bodied blends, then this is certainly a great cigar for you to try. Through the life of the cigar, it will offer notes of spices such as black pepper and cinnamon, with the spicy edge of cedar, rounded out by the soft, unctuous, nearly sweet tones of vanilla.

My Father No. 3 Crema
The My Father No. 3 Crema is like the No. 1 in the sense that it is also made with Nicaraguan binder and filler tobacco and perfected with a rich, oily Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper.

Sounds the same, right? Well, outwardly, yes, but there is another level of complexity to the No. 3, which has been rated as one of the best cigars in the world.

This 6” by 49 ring gauge cigar, like the No. 1, can be considered medium to full-bodied but there is a bit of extra body. Nonetheless, it is well balanced and complex, and not overbearing.

Expect to sample savors of black pepper and cedar, like the No. 1, with the added nuances of earth paired with the strength and bitterness of black chocolate and coffee. The strength is rounded out by the presence of notes of nuts and dried fruits, perhaps even with a touch of citrus.
