Large Indoor Planters Are Now Integral Part Of The New Normal In The Workplace

For many, these last two years were enough to get used to working environments that were not subject to corporate aesthetic mandates. Many enjoyed the feeling of being productive while surrounded by their favorite things or the ability to participate in meetings from the comfort of a lavishly decorated cafe.

However, with things getting back to normal…ish, many employers are finding it hard to convince their workforce to return to their positions. The prospect of returning to a secluded space is not very attractive for a whole lot of people as office spaces are usually places that rarely ooze with warmth and coziness.

This does not mean that employers have lost the battle against remote work. It only means they need to make sure their workspaces can also be temples dedicated to communing with nature.

Offices around the US are adopting a completely new approach with regard to indoor design. Instead of office spaces filled with cubicles and smaller modules with desks, many have adopted the open-space trend and added organic and natural color palettes.

We´re not talking about painting the walls with earth tones and light pastels. We mean bringing in large indoor planters to create lush internal gardens. This is a more organic approach that, when combined with textures, materials, and patterns that evoke the warmth and intimacy of residential spaces, contributes to a general sense of calm and increased creative energy.

This approach is not new. The modern workplace seemed to be drifting in this direction for quite some time. In fact, back in 2018 many interior design publications started to use the term “resimercial design” to refer to more flexible workspaces. But the notion of resimercial spaces, a combination of residential and commercial environments, seemed to be born out of the need to stimulate employees to be more productive within the workspace.

Today, our needs have changed, and employees feel more productive at home and tend to value convenience and freedom over productivity. We don’t want to see large surfaces filled with folders, copy machines, or computers. We feel more at ease in open spaces populated with rows of devil´s ivy, or hall entries flanked by large indoor planters with air-purifying parlor plants.

Being able to sit back and place our notebook right on our lap while being surrounded by beautifully designed and colorful planters is something most of us got used to doing at home. Moreover, greenery has proven to have a positive impact in workspaces as it improves productivity and reduces stress, So, the best thing employers can do is create spaces where coworkers feel right at home, by implementing innovative ideas and design options.

Resimersial or open space design, combined with the benefits of having a piece of paradise inside your workspace is the best way to let your employees know that you understand and share their connection to natural environments and the importance of feeling close to home.}
